Ritsos è considerato uno dei più grandi poeti greci del ventesimo secolo , insieme a Konstantinos Kavafis , Kostis Palamas , Giorgos Seferis , e Odysseas Elytīs .

Yiannis Ritsos is one of the great Greek poets of the twentieth century. His poem Moonlight Sonata was considered one of his most important works. Today, Greek composer Stavros Xarhakos gives it new impetus, with his latest music arrangement set to this great poem. Stavros Xarhakos is inspired by Moonlight Sonata, a staged monologue by our great poet Yannis Ritsos. A deeply lyrical work, which is emblematic of the poet’s intention to “re-establish poetry as something that can both be seen and heard”, as he used to say, Moonlight Sonata takes on a new perspective through Stavros Xarhakos’ music.
